Those magnificent men with their washing machines...

My washing machine is broken. My parents have suggested getting a new one, as the machine was of indeterminate age when I moved into my flat three years ago, and they say it'll cost half the cost of a new one to get it repaired.

Has anyone here had a washing machine repaired beforehand, that can cite me a price for it?

No price, but the experience that new washing machines tend to be a lot more energy efficient than old ones, and frequently use less water, which tends to even the balance a bit.

It all depends on *why* it's broken, and how many parts and/or labour you'll need.
