It might be an idea to move forward my plan to get my place double-glazed; I've just smashed one of my windows. :-( (Came in, threw the lounge windows open, right-hand one goes straight into the juliet balcony rail. Backstop? What backstop?) Anyone recommend any glaziers in the will-to-service-NW-London area?

So you're not going to use the trick with the Ultra-Cling Foil?

Well, as you saw, I did, for most of the lounge windows, and though it stopped condensation forming on the windows, it still didn't stop heat loss enough that I was ever warm from knee level downwards during the winter. Plus, when I got the place painted, the painters tore off all the double-glazing film and insulation foam (except from the juliet balcony door windows, which of course had non-painted frames).

Ah I see.

Is this operation going to cost you huge amounts of money?

Yes, I'll be paying through the nose. Afterwards, hopefully I'll have a nice toasty-warm flat, even if my nose will hurt.

We'll see the results next winter (if you get the windows done before then).
