Colonel Kay

Our new office at work has just been opened, and the Queen's Award presented, by Her Majesty's representative in Islington, the Deputy Lieutenant (the Lord Lieutenant being otherwise engaged), Colonel Kay.

At some point I am going to be able to hear this name and keep a straight face... but not yet.

Did he excuse Her Majesty for not coming herself? I guess she never saw the hospitals opened in her name or in the name of the Royal family either. She would be in for a shock if you she got treated there.

No, he excused the Lord Lieutenant of Islington for not coming himself; we were never expecting the Queen herself.

I think big things like hospitals the Queen would open herself; by contrast there were rather a lot (http://thebln.com/2010/04/list-of-winners-of-queens-awards-for-enterprise-2010/) of winners of the Queen's Award for Enterprise.
