Responsible travelling

It's two hours by 'plane, but I am resolving now to put my money where my principles are, and take the train. Which is nine and a half hours, and, due to the obscene practice of exempting aviation fuel from tax, probably considerably more expensive—but if we do end up drowning Leith (and Bangladesh and lots of other places) and bringing the Little Ice Age back to Britain, etc, it'll be because people put convenience and reduced cost in front of what's environmentally responsible...

Date: 2006-12-09 06:21 pm (UTC)Also, crossing France by train has the potential to be quite an enjoyable trip, not to mention that you can take your trusty water bottle, your computer and as many books as you want without running afoul of so-called "security". You might also be able to save money by travelling to Calais or Paris and booking the cross-France leg of the journey directly through SNCF.
