Sending the newly wed bride & groom off to seclusion (in theory to consummate the contract) is an Ashkenazi tradition and not normally followed in Sefardi and Mizrachi traditions. (But then we have Shabat Hatan AFTER the hupa while the Ashkenazi do it before.) For all that, an interesting article.
