Jewish Encyclopaedia available online
Sunday, June 26th, 2005 11:16 amI've just discovered the Jewish Encyclopaedia is now out of copyright and available free online. On Monday (i.e. when I have access to broadband at work) I think I might download the lot on the grounds that (a) a bird in the hand is worth two in the transient Web, and (b) they're considering updating it (à la Wikipedia?), which might be helpful, but, like Wikipedia, won't necessarily be entirely reliable (and in any case, I've got the Encyclopaedia Judaica on CD-ROM).
Hopefully this post will get me in less trouble than the last time I discovered something was available online...
Update: Bah, the terms and conditions say "Further, you will not engage in any systematic downloading or other activity directed towards any of the content, in whole or in part, found on the Service that would create any electronic data base or archive containing such content." I'd like to know in what way this attitude is defensible, given that the front page talks about the Encyclopaedia as being now public domain.
