Monday, August 14th, 2006 07:52 pmThe copy of "The Sun Does Rise" by Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart I bought last week on eBay has just arrived. This is one of the tracks I've been after my eBay grepping script failed to find, because I had the title down wrongly, as "The Sun Doth Rise in the Eastern Sky". (I prefer "doth rise"; "does rise" has an emphasis to it I don't think is warranted, and which "doth" does not confer.)
Anyhow, I've just listened to it, and was surprised to discover Dolores O'Riordan does indeed sing "doth rise"—surprised not just because this does not match the single's name, but also because googling for the lyrics shows the rest of the world hears it as "does": there's not a single match for "doth". Evidently being raised on the 1917 JPS translation of the Pentateuch (heavily based on the KJV), and the second edition of the Singer's Prayerbook predisposes me to hear "doth" where other people miss it...
