Chinese Arabic calligraphy
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007 08:12 pmAs is well known, Arabic can be written in a variety of scripts, each with its own distinctive style.
What's not so well known (to me at least), is that there is an Arabic script which arose in China, making use of Chinese calligraphic techniques, and drawn with brush rather than pen.
Isn't that pretty? (It says بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم "In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful," the opening verse of the Qur'ān.) Have a look at the rest.
