Damned logistics
Monday, May 7th, 2007 09:12 pm*sweat*sweat* I hate planning travelling. I investigated flights yesterday, and the best deal that doesn't involve getting up, or getting to bed, at an undogly hour*, arrives at Ben Yehuda Airport at 11:30 at night. (There are also indirect flights a hundred pounds cheaper, but which have a price to pay instead of trashed sleep patterns.)
* Which I would not prefer, as it is better to let sleeping dogs lie. (I don't sleep well, and I don't want to trash my sleep patterns when I've only just arrived there, even if I have a few days to recover before the course starts.)
Problem: As far as I can tell from googling, Egged bus services to Jerusalem don't run that late (there's a midnight service† from Tel Aviv, but no way would I get there on time), and all hotels around the airport cost an arm and a leg.
† 10pm UK time, so would not trash my sleep patterns too badly.
I'd prefer not to go to Tel Aviv, as it involves going over a third of the distance to Jerusalem in the wrong direction, but it may be my best bet (particularly if I have to rely on sherut to get there, if the public transport has packed up for the night.
After lots more googling, trying to find hotels or hostels in the direction of Jerusalem, I've come to the conclusion, my best bet (preferring, as I do, to retain my arm and leg) is a private room in a hostel in Tel Aviv. I was a bit leery of staying in a hostel, especially as I'll have coronium (the not-yet-bought replacement for luminiferous) with me, but it looks like I'm running out of choice.
The cheapest hostel, at £13, barely over half the price of the next cheapest, does not accept debit card bookings, but I'm sure I can find someone to pay using a credit card for me. (I already know one person owing me a favour of that nature.) I just hope they're still open to check in at whatever hour I actually turn up.
If anyone thinks I'm making an elementary mistake, or has a better idea for how I should go about doing this, shout now or forever hold your peace,as I plan to book flight and hostel tomorrow (Tuesday) (hoping the places for both haven't vanish by then).
(And then there's the issue of accommodation in Jerusalem to sort out... *whimper* Though I do have a (somewhat expensive) studio flat belonging to an acquaintance the renting of which I am currently investigating...)
