New laptop
Sunday, May 27th, 2007 03:06 pmI'm going to wait a few days for responses to some emails I've sent out, but am probably going to get a reconditioned IBM ThinkPad T30 (Pentium 2 (2 GHz), 256 Mb), for £276 (inc. VAT and P&P), as a replacement for luminiferous, plus a wireless PCMCIA card, for £14.10 (inc. VAT and P&P).
Which hopefully will give me time to get Linux installed, plus all the other stuff I use (barring at least one piece of software it won't occur to me to download until too late :o)) before I go to Israel.
Continuing my theme of naming machines after scientific (or pre-scientific) theories widely accepted but later proved to be wrong, the new machine (recycling an old, but little used name) will be called coronium [ETA link to the logo I devised for its lid.]
And now I should stop cat-vacuuming (I can't believe I've only just noticed the hoover in
green_knight's icon—almost as embarrassing as getting a new bike with bags and waterbottle reading THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE MOTORISED, and taking the best part of a year to remember that "Revolution" was the model of the bike*), and get back to Jerusalem flathunting.
* Hey, the price has come way down since I bought it last year. No fair!
