Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 01:42 pmA nearby shop, Kosher Kingdom, was damaged by a fire last year. They have signs outside atm reading:
PUBLIC NOTICE
Please note that all rebuilding work is being carried out by our landlord
It is likely that these works will be continuous over the
coming weeks inclusive of Shabbos which is out of our control
Halachic authorities have been consulted
Note the placement:
One sign at eye level for adults, and one to make sure all toddlers are fully informed. ;^)
In other fire-related news, I just noticed a fire in a wall-mounted ashtray affixed between Menorah booksellers and Taboon restaurant a couple of hundred yards down the road. Seeing the queue in Taboon, I decided to bother the owner of the bookshop instead. "There's a fire in the ashtray on the wall outside," I said. "That's Taboon," said the owner, shrugging it off. So much for כֹּל יִשְׂרָאֵל עַרֵבִים זֶה לָזֶה. (I went home and got some water, but by the time I got back, someone had put it out.)
