I just read the Taste of Limmud that was sitting in my inbox and read your contribution before I saw this post, and wanted to tell you that it was very interesting! :)
Quite. I thought, there's so much in this sedra, where do I choose something from, but when I had a look over it, it really was a no-brainer, especially given that their guidelines suggested using a quotation from literature.
Isn't it more likely that Pratchett dreamed up the singular frog out of his own warped imagination? It fits with the general sense of absurdity that wefts through the whole of his work.
Did you like the use of "wefts" there? Its so much more colourful than the more obvious "weaves" which I almost used. Its only after I posted the comment that I realised that the reason the word "weft" came into my head was becuase I used "warp" in the previous sentence! It all fits together, see?

Date: 2009-01-28 07:34 pm (UTC)Perhaps you used "wefts" because your mind was caught between "weaves" and "wends" in addition to the reason you suggest.
