Broadband ISP recommendations?

I'm poised about to buy my first flat (eeep!), and one of the things I intend to do once I've moved in is get broadband. (I've been holding off for the time being as there's a twelve-month minimum contract, and I've been theoretically flathunting for most of the last year.) Someone told me Tiscali, my current ISP, has a bad rep due to dropped connections (something I've noticed happening recently to me via narrowband). Does anyone have any recommendations or disrecommendations for broadband ISPs?

Pipex is good - they make life easy for Linux people, their tech people are not on a premium rate line IIRC, and they didn't (last year) have bandwidth caps.

My father recommended them too, but said that whilst their service was very good, their customer service wasn't.

PlusNet are good - and I think they give you the fastest speed your line can get, you pay for the monthly throughput..

I don't have Linux. I just heard eclipse is the cheapest but when you have no modem and no previous contract you might need to pay £50 for the connection. Someone from my training centre today recommended Telewesth. I have no idea what there price class is. I have AOL and I am not really happy with it. It is not the cheapest option. Maybe you are better off with Pipex.
