It occurred to me a while ago that if I end up relocating to Berlin (whether [livejournal.com profile] aviva_m or I will end up relocating is still undecided), before I go I should take some leave from work and see all the must-see places in the UK I've never been to which will be difficult to get to from Germany.

More recently, it occurred to me that I've still got two and a half days' leave unused this year. Perhaps I should put them to use in this rega
rd now... though the stub end of the year is not the best time, weatherwise, to go visiting places.

At any rate, where do you think I should visit? I already have my eye on Cornwall and the Northern Isles (both about as difficult to get to from London as you get in this country). [ETA: St Kilda would also be of interest, but there's probably not enough to see there to justify the difficulty of getting there.] This map, from an old post of mine, will give an idea of where I've already been:

Your map is a bit zoomed out to be sure, but it looks like you're not at all familiar with the Yorkshire or Northumbrian coasts - Whitby is pretty as are the North York Moors, and personally I definitely want to go visit Lindesfarne and Bamburgh Castle again since I haven't been since I was a kid, and maybe go see puffins! I'd love to go walk Hadrian's Wall too.

The Lake District is probably worth a trip though I'm not sure from the map how much of it you've been to already.

Boat trip: yes, that was the plan. Not sure when we'll get the chance now mind!

I am sure you already realise that at this time of year it will be pleasanter weather-wise in Cornwall than in the Northern Isles...;) I can definitely say Cornwall is worth visiting although quite touristy as you'd expect. I personally love Boscastle and the Eden Project in St Austell is worth a visit too. Still lots of places in the UK I feel sad about not having visited too and I am already in Germany now!
