Bah, SMS humbug!

Tiscali are now restricting their three free web texts a day (formerly five) to broadband users. If that's the case, there's no point me keeping my Tiscali account going; the only other thing it has going for it is the reward scheme, which has never had anything of interest to me. This means the redirect pages on the old, LineOne, URLs for my website will soon vanish, so if you haven't updated your bookmarks already, do so now.

Can anyone recommend alternative providers of free SMSing from the web?

I think free SMSing from the web is pretty much dead. Last time I looked there were subscription services, or services tied in to using some other paid service such as a mobile phone subscription, and very little else. You may be able to do it via icq.com, which requires you to create an ICQ account and then use the Java-based version of the IM client. But I'm not convinced that will work and I think it's restricted to a few phone providers in a few countries.

Don't touch www.sms.ac They look at a glance like the kind of thing you want, but they're evil. I signed up with them because I had given up on finding any other provider of internet-to-SMS, and they have been sending me premium messages which use up my mobile balance and they absolutely won't cancel them.

You can send texts from LJ but only to paid users who have activated the service.

I've just tried the Tiscali interface again, and, despite saying in bold red letters that this only works for broadband customers, it still works for me. *shrug* Go figure. No idea how long this will last.
