New bike update

The chain fell off my new bike after forty miles; without a range shifter I couldn't get it back on again without getting off. This happened twice again after 110 miles, whilst taking out and putting the bike away, then once again on the following trip to work. I've a nasty feeling this is going to need fixing properly. (Though it may just be a case, someone suggested, of tightening everything up after the first few weeks of use.)

Apart from that, it's working fine. My only other complaint is that the handlebars are so long; I feel like a chalicothere riding it. Or a gorilla, I suppose, but why be compared to a gorilla when you can be compared to a chalicothere? I've heard many hybrid bikes are like this; and couriers often saw the handlebars down to size. I can see the attraction, but it would invalidate my warranty, and I'd probably lose a finger in the process. I can put up with wide handlebars, but it makes it difficult both to scoot between queuing traffic and parked cars, and to get past the bike on the corridor into my flat...

Today someone with a bike even newer than mine had it nicked, £50 lock and all, from outside work. (Not in the smart-card access cycle park where I keep mine.) Time to find out about getting my bike security-marked, I think. Anyone got any suggestions?
