If you had a doctor's appointment (and were rarely in need of such, and rarely ill), and it requires taking time off work, would you make up the time you needed to take off, or consider it equivalent to the sick leave you're entitled to?

Use it as sick leave, that is what I have done.

Depends massively on the nature of your work. But if you want a general answer, yes, it is morally reasonable to use sick leave to cover a doctor's visit; that's really part of what sick leave is there for. To be absolutely scrupulous, I'd declare it as sick leave, not just consider it equivalent.
