What the point of all those chains? I expected something like from the crazy scientist in "Back to the Future" when at the end the toast is baked or the eggs are fried. I can't see any of this.

Yes, it did seem to fizzle out rather at the end.
Though possibly that was deliberate, since it did so rather literally.
