I resisted the temptation today to buy sprouts in Tesco, flown in from South Africa. [livejournal.com profile] livredor's mother would be proud of me!

Now the question is whether I can resist the temptation to turn on the heating, after I thought I was done with it for the summer. It's freezing here!

Why is it bad about buying sprouts from South Africa? I do not like brussel sprouts. But I am not sure what other products are from there.

It's bad for the environment shipping them a quarter of the way around the world; but it's even worse flying them here.

Oh, I see. I thought you meant they have suddenly slaves over there again who harvest the sprouts.
They used to have Kiwi fruit from New Zealand. Now they have them from Spain which is a much shorter way. Some exotic fruit for example pineapple have to come from abroad but it is better when they are not coming from not too far. Spain and South Italy can have them, too.
