I've just been to Simcha on the Square, a festival of Jewish music in Trafalgar Square. In addition to a varied panolpy of talent, including Ladino singer Mor Karbasi*, klezmer artist Stewart Curtis, and Greek/Turkish band Troia Nova* (somewhat bizarrely named after Trinovant), there was a "Klezmer with beats" act from Paris, Estelle Goldfarb and DJ ClicK* (in which ClicK sampled Goldfarb's violin playing, and played it back to accompany her, as well as passing it, live, through filters changing it so much it took me a little while to connect the sound with what Goldfarb was doing). Halfway through their set, I realised as well as doing more standard DJish things, DJ ClicK was using a theremin. Cool! I've never actually seen a theremin used live before.

A propos of which, may I take the opportunity to heartily recommend the book Theremin: Ether Waves and Espionage, by Albert Glinsky. Aside from inventing the theremin, Lev Sergeyevich Termen (aka Leon Theremin) lived an incredible life—fought in WW1 for the Tsar, met Lenin and Stalin, experienced the heights of American capitalism in the 20s and their depths in the 30s; survived a Siberian labour camp; carried out pioneer work on television, and on rocketry with Korolev, invented bugging devices for the NKVD, and finally succeded in gaining membership of the Communist Party, fulfilling a promise to Lenin, eight months before the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Ultimately, yes; depends how long you're prepared to wait. Though, how often are you in the big bad megalopolis?
