Finally got myself a hotplate as an early Chanukah present today. Hooray; hot meals for Shabbos lunch on a regular basis!

Since I was going to have to carry it back from the shop in Temple Fortune where I got it, I thought I'd use the fact I was going up there by foot to take my TV to the charity shop around the corner. (There didn't seem much point in trying to sell it on eBay when a quick gander at eBay showed more recent models of a similar size were going for next to gornisht.) When I got there, though, they said they didn't take electronics. I headed off towards the clutch of charity shops on Golders Green Road, but stopped off along the way at the opticians in Zamenhof House to get my glasses repaired. As well I did: they told me there the licensing of charity shops forbids them from selling electronics. Oh well, it's gone on Freecycle now. (Anyone here want a 14" colour CRT TV? (Note: it's got no SCART socket.))

Finally, I have now borrowed my brother's pre-amp for a week. I now have that time to get sampled, if not necessarily yet burned to CD, all of my remaining eleven unsampled LPs...

Advertise it on Freecycle, or 'phone the council and ask them how you should dispose of it (as I think binning is discouraged.)

There are opticians in a building called Zamenhof House? How...appropriate.

(I have no idea what this Zamenhof House is. If it's a building for eye people of various sorts, then please ignore this comment as too obvious to be worth making. But if it's some sort of communal building, and just happens to currently count an optician among its tenants, then the appropriateness may not have automatically occurred to people.)

The house (http://www.eye-spy.co.uk/contact.html) looks like just a large house; it also looks old enough that I'd be surprised if the the practice has been there since it was built.

I have no idea what the story behind it is, though.
