Ahmedianism?

I just read the following in this month's New North London Synagogue's newsletter:
The Ahmedians, of whom there are 1.5 million worldwide, are Muslims who negate violence as a part of Jihad. The community in Haifa is well-established and their relations with the Jewish community are good—so much so, that when they fled temporarily in 1948 [during the Israeli War of Independence], their Jewish neighbours looked after their homes until they returned.
Who are these Ahmadians [as the majority of reference on Google spell it], and why do they have such a low profile? I've just spent five minutes trying to find out more about them via Google, and haven't been able to turn up anything more than a passing reference.

Try "Ahmadiyya" as a search term. I knew a girl at school whose family were of this group.
