Today is a year since I got my new bike. When I first got it, I did not know how much I was cycling. I knew it had been 1200 miles a year when I managed to snap the mileometer off my old bike, but I did not know how much I'd been doing since. So, rather than getting a new mileometer, I made a little CGI script at work, and updated it via a webform every time I cycled in.
I expected to find I was doing between 1200 and 1600 miles a year; as the year drew on, though, it became apparent I was going to scrape through the 1600 mile boundary. Then, late in the year, I got fed up with sitting in delayed trains on the Tube, and bumped up from cycling three times a week to cycling four times a week; so the total figure ended up at 1808 miles (assuming I get home all right today :o)). If I hadn't gone to Jerusalem for three and a half weeks, I'd have ended up within twenty miles of the magical 2000 mile figure (and if, say, I hadn't just gone to Nice, etc, I'd have passed that figure too.)
Now we'll have to see how much I manage in the next year, cycling four times a week the whole year (though I suspect I'll have to drop to three in the middle of winter, in order to make up with long Tube days the time lost on cycling days short enough to cycle both to and from work in daylight).

London Evening Standard Runs Poll on BNP and Facebook
—Vote Now and Show Your Opposition—
The London Evening Standard is running a poll today asking if the BNP should be allowed to be on the Facebook social networking site. Because many people are unaware of the poll, and fascists are encouraging their supporters to mobilise, it is currently showing 64% of in favour of the BNP staying on Facebook. This is in direct contradiction to the massive support we have had for the campaign to stop the BNP using Facebook to spread their dangerous racist lies and organise their campaigns of hatred. Thousands of people have joined the UAF Facebook Group or signed the email petition, people from right across Britain and including many MPs and the President of the National Union of Students.
We need to people to be aware of this poll and show their true support for getting the Fascists Off Facebook.
Please:
· Vote now and tell your friends and contacts about this poll today!
· Get People to sign the UAF petition- We Can Get the Fascists Off Facebook!
· Get your MP to back the Campaign- Write today asking them to sign the petition
The poll can be found here (just click on the link). The UAF petition is below.
