Finally got myself a hotplate as an early Chanukah present today. Hooray; hot meals for Shabbos lunch on a regular basis!

Since I was going to have to carry it back from the shop in Temple Fortune where I got it, I thought I'd use the fact I was going up there by foot to take my TV to the charity shop around the corner. (There didn't seem much point in trying to sell it on eBay when a quick gander at eBay showed more recent models of a similar size were going for next to gornisht.) When I got there, though, they said they didn't take electronics. I headed off towards the clutch of charity shops on Golders Green Road, but stopped off along the way at the opticians in Zamenhof House to get my glasses repaired. As well I did: they told me there the licensing of charity shops forbids them from selling electronics. Oh well, it's gone on Freecycle now. (Anyone here want a 14" colour CRT TV? (Note: it's got no SCART socket.))

Finally, I have now borrowed my brother's pre-amp for a week. I now have that time to get sampled, if not necessarily yet burned to CD, all of my remaining eleven unsampled LPs...

I've got a CD of Elgar conducting his own violin and cello concertos, recorded in 1928 and 1932. The CD was produced in 1989, and there's quite a bit of surface noise from the shellac discs it was mastered from. I wonder whether it might not be worth running that CD through Audacity's click removal algorithm; possibly whatever they had in 1989 wasn't as good at the job as the one that comes with Audacity...
