Bugle horn / German vs Hebrew / My first Wikipedia edit
Friday, January 14th, 2011 01:14 pmThe pinger of the ping bell on my bike having snapped off a little while ago, I went in search of a replacement, and succumbed to the temptation of getting a bugle horn. It cost twice the price of a ping bell, and also considerably more than a conventional bell, but it was worth every penny, for the sheer fun of sounding it. I almost find myself looking forward to having pedestrians step in my way now, and when they do, their annoyance at getting honked at is often rapidly displaced by amusement at being honked at by something which sounds like it came off a car from a century ago. Indeed, one pedestrian who was a little way in front of me when I sounded it yesterday called out at me as I passed "Do it again!", and laughed when I obliged.
In other news, as my German slowly gets better,* my Hebrew is, as I feared, suffering, as I am no longer putting the time into attempting to read שער למתחיל (despite the fact my use of my Hebrew flash card program throughout the day and evening continues).
* Albeit that my speed of both comprehension and speaking remains several times too slow for real conversation, because I'm not practising using it anything near like enough. What I really need to do is go on a German ulpan. Yeah, right—in my Copious Free Time (as in, I don't think the motivation
aviva_m has for me to learn German includes not having any time for her any more...).
And finally, to mark the tenth anniversary of the establishment of Wikipedia, I present to you my very first Wikipedia edit.
