When I light Friday night candles, I always put them on an improvised affair of an elevated tray. It doesn't look very good, so I asked [livejournal.com profile] aviva_m to get me a nice tray for Chanukah.

We gave each other our Chanukah presents on Sunday, as we'll not be in the same place for Chanukah, and the tray she got me is very nice, but it's flat: it doesn't have any feet.

I always use an elevated tray, so if the candles fall over and heat the tray up, there's no possibility of it getting hot enough to damage the wooden table underneath. (Also, when the candles have burned down to the candlesticks, the metal candlesticks themselves get hot, as I found out this week when, there being someone in the room the whole time, I put them directly onto the tablecloth, and damaged the tablecloth :o(, I'm not yet sure whether permanently or not.) After all, metal is a good conductor of heat.

Am I worrying too much about nothing, or should I look into returning the tray and replacing it with one with feet (such as my parents use). Anyone got any candle horror stories involving metal trays sitting directly on a wooden table?
