lethargic_man: "Happy the person that finds wisdom, and the person that gets understanding."—Prov. 3:13. Icon by Tamara Rigg (limmud)
Ah, that's why the rabbis said Pinḥās b. El`azar was still around in the time of Yiftāḥ (Jephthah), 337 years after the time of the conquest of Canaan: because Judges 20:28 says he was still around 91 years later still.

Of course, this merely transfers the question, but possibly the answer to that is that the chapter order in Judges got scrambled, and the story in Judges 19–21 actually belonged at the beginning of the book. There's nothing internal to it to set it in time.

[personal profile] iddewes blogging about the Räuchermännchen her boyfriend gave her made me wonder where the word rauchen came from in German, as it's evidently a different word to the English "smoke". And the answer is: it's related to the English word "reek". Heh; etymology in sync with my reaction to smoking (tobacco).

(A moment's further thought reveals the English word must once have had the same meaning as the German, as shown by the name Auld Reekie for Edinburgh.)

No change at Menachem's; good to know that whilst everyone else is celebrating Chanukah, they're ready for Pesach:
