Sitting at home ill, as I am, I've been playing around for the first time with Google Charts:

To be honest, it's all a little bit fiddly, and not an awful lot easier to deal with manually than Gnuplot:

Time series

I don't know what Gnuplot is (I do now - having just googled it) but I have used Google charts a lot. I have found the implementation of time series graphs to be superb.

Its advantage is its embedded in the web based google docs suite.

Also, check out the google finance pages (beta version for the UK). It works very well here too (although not without room for improvement)

I find it pretty scary that you have that much data :P

For which graph? The top one is simply noting down the figures from my mileometer, and keeping a rough mental tally of how many times a week I cycled. Then I managed to snap the mileometer off my bike in 2005, so—being the person I am—I wrote a CGI script to do the same, and enter into a webform every day when I get to work whether I cycled there, and how many extra miles I did; and it presents me with the above graph and a mileage breakdown.

Now, the question you should have been asking is: how come your annual mileage stayed the same during the period 1996–2000 despite your weekly number of commutes falling? ;^b

(The answer, in case you're now wondering, is because at the beginning, whenever I had a puncture and the repair failed, it would often take me months to get around to repairing it. During the course of that period, I cycled less, but got better at repairing faults.)
