I keep receipts... er, well, it depends. Sometimes I don't bother with one at all, if it's for something like food that I'm about to eat. Otherwise I try to keep them until I won't need them - so until I've made sure I'm not returning the item, or until the warranty runs out.
I keep bank statements that I have, but now I don't get them and just have online banking.
I keep payslips and P60s around if I manage not to loose them, haven't thrown any out yet.
Hmm... <looks at pile of 1991–2000 payslips just ripped out of lever arch file> Maybe I should keep these then... <considers already discarded 2000–2005 payslips> Nah, maybe not.
I only keep receipts if the product has a guarantee, no matter how I paid for it. Otherwise I don't keep them at all. There is no option of unemployment.
