It didn't even occur to me to check Auntie's staff emergency information page when I looked out of the window and saw over three inches of snow this morning... and in any case, they didn't set it to advise "that only essential staff travel to work today in weather-affected areas" until after I'd got to work this morning; but most of my department didn't turn up anyway.

But I'm glad I went, even if it took an hour longer than normal: if I hadn't gone, I wouldn't have had the chance to have a snowball fight with a couple of guys fifty feet away across a yawning seven-storey chasm, or succeeded where I failed a few years ago, in throwing a snowball across that gap to hit the Media Centre and making someone notice inside, despite the completely soundproof windows, or spent my lunchtime with another guy making not only probably the biggest snowman I've ever made, but certainly the highest up:

snowman

(I started the snowman alone, having failed to interest several people in joining me; once I'd got going, though, somebody else came to help. I was most amused, though, after seeing this indifference, to leave work at the end of the day and see a further eight snowmen on the patch of grass in front of the Media Village.)

Really, the only thing missing from the day I might have done if I'd stayed home is go sledging somewhere hilly, and in lieu of that I got a good amount of reading done (on the Tube), and some more done on a project which will have to be wrapped up and finished tomorrow when everyone else is back.

The possibility of sledging still remains, for later in the week, as there is more snow forecast (though I'm hoping that from tomorrow the side streets will have tyre-ruts worn down to the tarmac, so I can cycle to work).

I did one, too. But I had to do it all myself. People passed and some said "Oh, look!". That was it. It was already dark. I hope I can make a picture tomorrow. I have no idea how to put on LJ. How do you do it?

If I can't please do it for me. I hope the snowman is still alive tomorrow. I won't be able to put myself next to it though. I may try to stop one of the neighbours when they pass by.

It was very convenient that we even had a gutter full of flints available for use as buttons and eyes up there on the balcony, without needing to hunt around the office for substitutes.
