Could someone please tell me what style of jazz this is? (It's from the album Aranjuez by Jan Akkerman (of Focus fame) and Claus Ogerman. The album is a perennial favourite of mine, though it grew on me slowly—the style of music took some getting used to—but I've been left for years unable to categorise it due to insufficient familiarity with different styles of jazz.)

excellente question

smoothe jazz; I wonder if JazzFM ever played this in the '90s. Was Pavane a French type of slow dance? It was originally composed for the piano by Ravell a romantic composer 5th April 1902 CE. ref:

Eeek! A fan!

I wonder if JazzFM ever played this in the '90s.

The album was released in 1985, and seems rather obscure today, so perhaps not.

Was Pavane a French type of slow dance? It was originally composed for the piano by Ravell a romantic composer 5th April 1902 CE.

I was vaguely familiar with the piece—enough at least to recognise it—when I first heard Akkerman's/Ogerman's interpretation of it.

It sounds nice. It sounds like a mixture of classic and jazz. I will send the link to my brother. He loves Jazz and used to play the piano (mainly Jazz) and his now in a Jazz choir. He must know.
By the way I did not get any email message about Friday night service or dinner neither from Moishe House nor Assif mailing list. I am not pleased about it. I was twice in Moishe house last week and nobody told me anything.

They advertised it in an email at the start of this month only. When I later asked why it did not have a Facebook event of its own, they replied:
We are not putting out big advertisements for all of our Moishe House shabbats as sometimes we enjoy a smaller size of gathering so that we can actually get to know or chat with everyone who comes.

My brother said it sounds to him like classical music with some Jazz harmonies. It is not real Jazz.

<rolls eyes> It's a classical piece of music given a jazz interpretation. (That applies to most of the tracks on the album, though at least one is a piece of rock music given a jazz interpretation.) That doesn't mean it's not jazz; there's more than one way to skin a cat.
