Monday, June 29th, 2009 07:22 pmIt looks like I hadn't been checking my tyres for embedded glass or stones as often as I should have been; I had no idea my rear tyre was completely worn through until the inner tube blebbed out through it. Before I could get to the side of the road to stop and investigate, there was a loud bang, like popping a balloon*, and that was the end of my inner tube and outer tube both.
Damn. (Cue a fifty minute walk home.)
Note to self: next time, make sure to replace the rear tyre before it reaches the 6000 mile mark.
* When this happened to me once before, ten years ago, I was inflating the tyre and my head was next to it; you could see my claw marks in the ceiling afterward.
<examines rear wheel> That's odd; the place where the inner tube blew is nowhere near where the outer tube wore through.
Tomorrow I'll take my tyre to a bike shop, and say, "I'll have one of these, please, but without the hole in." :o)
