The other day I was going "oyez! oyez!" and making handbell-swinging motions to get people's attention for a meeting, and one of my colleagues said I should get a handbell for the purpose.
I said "I used to have one in my old job, but one day some ba*d made off with the clapper. I don't suppose any of you have seen a little sphere of brass with a ring attached that I use instead?"
At which point Ian, who orked cattle in my old department at the BBC, and has in the last month followed me here too, said "That's funny, I used to have a little sphere of brass with a ring attached in my desk back at the BBC."
I said, "You bastard! It was you that nicked it all along!? That's criminal damage, that is. But as long as you get it back to me for Purim, I don't mind."
I thought: It'll probably have been slung out by the person who inherited his desk after he left. But much to my surprise, I came back from lunch today to find it sitting on my keyboard.
Result: One happy
