"It's a bird!" "It's Superman!" "No, it's an aeroplane!"

(Not often you get to use that order.)

There were two 'planes, presumably making test flights. And then they were gone, and the vapour trails faded, and it was as if they had never been.

Finally, for anyone who hasn't already seen it, the real cause of the travel chaos.

Apparently UK airspace is free over 20,000ft but closed below that point. So other people can cross the UK but they can't land.

Somebody told me people are stuck at their different holiday destination like Israel and other countries she mentioned. They are forced to take holidays forever or look for work in Israel or wherever they are.

I'd hardly call spending an extra week abroad forever! If the worst comes to the worst and UK airspace doesn't reopen in the next little while, Spain has said it'll let flights land there, and then people can catch the train back to the UK; and the Navy has sent three ships to Spain too to pick up stranded Britons.

Do you think aeroplanes can fly on 24th of May again? My brother wanted to come on that day. He will go with a cheap flight to Stanstead and we meet up in London as I have things to do. But maybe he threw out his money which is a lot for a non-working student. How long does a vulcano erruption usually last?

If you read the news at all, you'd know the answers to these questions, which is: no one knows. The last time this volcano erupted, in 1821, it lasted two years, but probably intermittently.

Depending on who he booked his flight with, he may be eligible for a refund. (Ryanair, whom I am supposed to be flying with, are offering complete refunds.)
