Limmud Fest has pushed to the top of my agenda whether to go to Limmud Conference this year or not. (This is because there's a £25 discount if you apply at Fest, and though I failed to make a decision then, I was going to on the last day, only to discover the application forms were already packed up, and was told I should 'phone the Limmud office, which doesn't reopen until tomorrow, giving me a brief window of opportunity for planning.)

I've been going to Limmud Conference every year since 2004, but never intended to do so every year. My second time was a bit less good than the first, and the third less good than the second, and after the fourth I said I wouldn't go the following year... only what happened was that I ended up being a presenter. After all, I said, what else was I going do to at Christmas?

This year, though, there's a difference: I have a girlfriend (who can't make Limmud this year), and am (assuming we're still together then) going to want to do things with her, in a limited period of time off work. (I have five weeks, but fully half of that is taken up by the yomtovim, which almost entirely fall in weekdays the coming leave year.) And I might want to do other things too, for example attend an intensive summer ulpan.

I had the idea I could go to part of Limmud Conference only—which I would want to include the pre-Conference Shabbos. But with the Monday 27th December and Tuesday 28th December being Bank Holidays, I'm not sure I'd be able to travel back by public transport on them. And if I stayed for the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, that comes out as the same price on a per-day basis as staying for the whole of Limmud Conference, which obviously does not offer value for money for me.

Aargh, decisions, decisions. And only one day to make my mind up!
