Web hosting recommendations...?

lethargic_manI got an email a few days ago from the Wandering Jews peeps saying their web hosting was about to expire; they were thinking of letting it lapse as it was £100 a year, and could I suggest alternatives? I said £100 a year was way too much for what we were doing with it (static HTML plus guest book); and I'd look into alternatives when I get a chance.
The company that provides my domain, Mythic Beasts, offers web hosting (including CGI, hence guest book) for £25 + VAT a year; but this still seems excessive for what we'd do with it. On the assumption that recommendations from people who use such services are worth more than googling for the best deals, can anyone here suggest anywhere with better value, but which still offers reliability? I'm assuming WJ don't want to go for ultra-cheap or free by allowing adverts on the pages.
