Spare bike

A while ago I got myself a cheap bike as a spare in case my main one goes in for repairs, and in case I want to go out in the evening somewhere not easy to get to by public transport where I would not feel happy leaving my £300-odd main bike.

Last night was the first time I actually had cause to use it. Halfway home afterwards, I noticed the quick release lever for the front wheel, which I had checked was secure beforehand, was open. Aside from the fact I was lucky I didn't go over a bump and end up wheel-less*, this is proof that on this bike's maiden evening outing, someone opened the lever to steal the wheel, before realising it was locked to the rest of the bike. (Either that, or I was the victim of a malicious prankster out to cause cyclists nasty accidents.)

* This is, incidentally, the biggest piece of evidence, for me, for Eva not being an unreliable narrator in We Need To Talk About Kevin: quick-release levers do not open themselves by accident.
