She doesn't believe it, but I was genuinely not aware until aviva_m pointed it out that I had got myself into a position where all other languages got a "love of languages" icon:

but the German language got a "The Awful German Language" icon:

Well, it wouldn't be the first time studying something I found difficult killed my love of it...

I'd trouble my translator
With nouns the size of Hamburg
And leave the verb till later.

And if I were a Welshman
My work would thwart translation
With ninety novel plurals
In strict alliteration.

And would I were Chinese!
I'd throw them off their course
With twelve unusual symbols
All homophones of "horse".

But as it is, I'm English:
And I'm the one in hell
By writing in a language
Impossible to spell.

Well, just get aviva_m to move to the UK like you prefer and then all you need is basic conversational German to communicate with her parents. ;) That isn't so hard - it's more the official language which is horrible, rather like Russian.
