There's a cloudless blue sky here and the garden of [livejournal.com profile] aviva_m's block of flats is filled with gorgeous autumn colours—reds, yellows and browns, still at this time of year tempered by a complement of greens. Autumn used to be my favourite time of year, on account of the colours; my memories are of being almost overwhelmed by it driving through the Lothian countryside (okay, on the Edinburgh city bypass) on my way to work.

I wonder what happened to change me; I'm a summer fan now. I suspect the answer has to do with having too few nice colours to look at now, both because there's fewer trees to see in my life in the Big Bad Megalopolis (no, not Glasgow!), and the ones there are go more boring colours—there's almost nothing to see going red, in particular. (There might be a few in Golders Hill Park, but I'm rarely motivated to make the uphill shlep there outside of high summer.) That, and perhaps the fact I suffer more from the autumnal weather, in my insufficiently heated flat and cycling more rather than admiring the season from inside a heated car.
