Yom Hashoah / Memorial prayer for the victims of the Holocaust
Monday, April 28th, 2014 07:23 pmToday is Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Memorial Day in the Jewish calendar.
A few days ago, I attended my first Yizkor (memorial service) as a mourner. It was in Germany. In the UK, the Yizkor service includes a prayer for martyrs (written, I think, for the victims of the Crusades); it may also include a prayer for the victims of the Holocaust. But it was a shock to me to hear the names highlighted below read out loud in a synagogue; we don't do that here in the UK.
