For the benefit of anyone else I might have sent an email to "from Eilat", and was worrying about me and the Dahab bomb, I'm back in the UK, and okay: I wrote my postcard emails in Eilat, but only sent them here. I was actually in more danger from the Tel Aviv bus station bomb the other week—I was in a bus approaching Tel Aviv at the time.

And before anyone I haven't mentioned this to starts fretting: People are scared to come to the country, because of how it's portrayed on the news: full of Islamic fundamentalists glorifying terrorism and killing people with suicide bombs. Only it's not British people's attitude towards Israel I'm talking about here; what I'm describing seems now to be the average Israeli's attitude towards the UK.

Just goes to show how much our attitudes are influenced by the media, doesn't it?

The _actual_ risks in Britain seem to be reasonably low - there was one attack (which, sadly, was spectacular, but with relatively low loss of life in the grand scheme of things), but yes, media portrayal certainly plays a role.

Glad to hear you're ok.

One attack which came off, but another two (the attempted bombing of 21st July, and the Richard Reid shoe-bombing) which failed only due to the incompetence of the terrorists, plus a number of fair to high profile foiled attacks, such as the one which had Heathrow Airport shut the other year.

glad you are safe back

I did not know you had to pass Tel Aviv. I am glad you are safe in one piece.
