Oh crikey, now you're asking. "עשות ספרים הרבה אין קץ, ולהג הרבה יגעת בשר" is the first that comes to mind, but I don't think that's really appropriate. :o) Leave it with me (unless someone else out there has a good idea?)
Hmm, well there's Ethics of the Father's 1:13: דִלָא מוֹסִיף יָסֵף, and 2:15 (slightly out of context): אָרוּן שֶל־חֲכָמִים; but neither of those quite seem to encapsulate what I'm after. Perhaps something from Proverbs, 3:13, for instance: אַשְׁרֵי אָדָם מָצָא חָכְמָה, וְאָדָם יָפִיק תְּבוּנָה. Or 9:9: תֵּן לְחָכָם, וְיֶחְכַּם-עוֹד; הוֹדַע לְצַדִּיק, וְיוֹסֶף לֶקַח. More anon. Such as when I can be bothered to skim the rest of the Book of Proverbs. :o)
I am currently reading Chinese Proverbs. They are lots of small stories about Chinese History "Thousand pieces of Gold". What are the Hebrew Proverbs? I guess my translation does not call it Proverbs. It uses the original Hebrew word.
Thanks very much! I'm leaning towards the first of them atm; however, would you mind very much if I asked you to make a few changes?
First, could I get you to change it so the large אַשְׁרֵי אָדָם מָצָא חָכְמָה text appears in front of the others, like the third icon; rather than the background suddenly becoming blank? Secondly, could you change the other texts, or at least the דִלָא מוֹסִיף יָסֵף text, where only the last letter is missing, so it's all visible within the icon? And thirdly, could you put the vowels into the large text (as is the case where it appears in the background)? We Diaspora Jews aren't all so good at reading unpointed Hebrew. :o)
Sorry to be finnicky, but if this icon is going to represent me, I want it to look right... and I think it oughtn't to be much work for you; it looks to me like you've done the majority of the work already.
Updated the first one and the static one (and the gallery messed up the order, so they're the last two now).
I had fun trying to find vowels that match the font used there... It's why I cut them in the first place. Not all typographers bother making vowels, they just use a generic, ugly (imo) set.
Thanks very much... though as I'm an unpaid user, I've only got room for one more icon.
Could I possibly get you to make one more change, which is to slow down at least the last frame, as I didn't have time to read it before it vanished.

How much slower? Double its length? Currently it's on 2 seconds, while the other slides are all on 0.5 (can play with those as well, if you want, though if you vary it too much they will give a slightly jarring feeling. my iBoo icon has varying slide times, but because it's not text it's not quite jarring)

Date: 2006-05-11 03:29 pm (UTC)Made three icons, variations on the same feel (all text).
You can find them in this gallery:

(it's friends only locked, for now)
Small fyi - two of those are animated (the gallery view just shows a thumbnail).
