On 20 August 1977 the Voyager 1 probe was launched, carrying, along with all its scientific instruments, a gold-plated record with (inter alia) music from planet Earth. Rock and roll was represented by Chuck Berry's immortal "Jonny B. Goode".
On 20 August 2017, forty years to the day later, NASA launched the Postman 2 spacecraft, bound, like its predecessor Postman 1, for the outermost reaches of the Solar System. This, too, bore a gold-plated record, and on it the twin worlds of rock and roll were represented by the Elvis Presley track... (wait for it)... "Return To Sedna".

Date: 2004-03-19 08:23 am (UTC)There was a background moment in Les Triplets de Belleville which really made me think of you; a poster of a happy red laughing cow with two big blonde braids, which as the shot descended turned out to be labelled "La Valkyrie".

Date: 2004-03-20 01:59 pm (UTC)Though I might point out that "red cow" has completely different associations for me, viz. the red heifer of Numbers 19, which passage is read yearly in shul and was part of my barmitzvah leyning ("reading" just doesn't give the right impression) many years ago.
Which brings to mind (courtesy of Fabien last year) the following (note: the Hebrew for "cow" is para):
(The legends read: "para-psychology", "parabola", "prehistory" (works better without vowels :o)), "paradox", "parachute", "parasite" and "red heifer".)
